Abstract

After incubation of rabbit brain cortex slices with ^(32)P-oithophosphate in Krebs-Ringer Tris(hydroxymethyl) aminotnethane medium, pH 7.4, containing glucose, the phosphatides were separated, by thin-layer chromatography.
In the absence of estradiol -17¥â, more than 50 percent of ^(32)P incorporated into the phospholipid was recovered in phosphatidyl choline. When 10^(-8) I estradiol-17¥â was added to the reaction media the incorporation of ^(32)P-orthophosphate into phosphatidyl choline was depressed, while that into phosphatidic acid was enhanced.
These results suggest that estradiol is similar to acetylcholine in stimulating the incorporation of ^(32P)-orthophosphate into phosphatidie acid of brain cortex.
